Drywall is the most common material used for walls in homes today. It goes by many different names including sheetrock, gypsum board, plasterboard and wallboard. Whatever you call it, there are times when drywall needs to be repaired or replaced.

In the past, plaster walls were used. Drywall is much cheaper, easier to repair, easier to paint and more durable.

Often times, new drywall needs to be hung. In cases of basement finishing, there may be no walls at all and it simply needs to be installed. Using qualified workers is important to make sure they check for water and/or termite damage behind the drywall.

Water damage can do so much harm to a home. Not only does it destroy basement floors, it can also deteriorate drywall. Sometimes, especially if it is caught and dried quickly, drywall can be repaired rather than replaced. Walls can expand when they become saturated and they never dry in their original shape. In those cases, it should be replaced to avoid bacteria and mold growth.
